Section Jamilena - Martos

Description

The Jamilena-Martos stretch is a moderate stage of 6.5 kilometres, with a positive 200-meter and negative gap of 150-meter. This section of the Mozário Road of Santiago is ideal for those who want to enjoy the olive sea that characterizes the province of Jaén, while entering the history and culture of the region.

We started the stretch in the quiet village of Jamilena, which is the municipality with the smallest municipal term in the entire province. This is not only characteristic for its extensive olive tree, but also for another motor product of its economy, garlic. Some of its most characteristic corners are the City Hall Square or the Parish Church of Our Lady of Nativity.

As we leave the urban core, the Peña de Martos appears on the horizon, dominating the landscape and accompanying us for almost all the way to Martos. This section offers a perfect mix of nature and panoramic views of the extensive olive grove that characterizes the province.

The road to Martos runs through a historical path that connects both municipalities and has been used for centuries. Although the tour is mostly smooth, it has some moderate climbs, especially as we approach the municipality. The first point of reference for the arrival of Martos is the Hermitage of Saint Lucia, an emblematic place that marks the entrance to the city. From here, we began an ascension to the historic center, passing through the parish of San Amador and Santa Ana, dedicated to the Mozarian pattern of the city. When we get to the old town, we find his rich heritage.

Among the points of interest you cannot stop visiting in Martos are the Antigua Cárcel and Cabildo, a building currently used as City Hall and information point to the pilgrim. The Castles of the Peña and the Villa, or the Roman Bridge. The city also retains part of its urban wall.

Among the most emblematic religious buildings are the Royal Parish Church of Santa Marta, the Sanctuary of Mary Most Holy of the Villa and the Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity. Nor can you pass the Hermitage of San Bartolomé or that of Saint Lucia.
