Jaén, Land of Cinema

The landscape power of the Jiennense province and its monumental and historical heritage make Jaén an attractive stage for the shooting of film and television series.

Large productions such as 'The Adventures ofI Captain Alatriste (Agustín Díaz Yanes, 2006) shot part of their scenes in the cities World Heritage Ubeda and Baeza, portraying the imperial Spain of the 17th century and welcoming numerous duels of sword, ambushes and other exploits led by the valiant Diego Alatriste, played by Viggo Mortensen, in a cast in which also present were actors of the size of Javier Cámara, Ariadna Gil, Eduardo Noriega, Eduard Fernández or Blanca Portillo. These municipalities were also present in the film 'The Conjure of The Scorial ' (Antonio del Real, 2008) a historical drama of the 16th century that crosses various political intrigues set in the Court of Philip II, and was starring Julia Ormond, Jason Isaacs, Jordi Mollá, Juan Puigcorbé, among others. And that also includes scenes in the Arab baths of Jaén and Natural Park Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas.

The Castle of Burgalimar, settled in Encine bathsit was also a shooting stage for the film 'Captain Thunder and the Holy Grail' (Antonio Hernández, 2011) where one of the most complicated and spectacular scenes was filmed, with which the film begins. Likewise, the film of The mule (Michael Radford, 2013) based on the novel by the Arjonero Juan Eslava Galán, starring Mario Casas and María Valverde, and set in the Spanish Civil War, rolled part of his plot in Stir and Lopera. As well as Spanish-French co-production 'Rosa y Negro ' (Gerard Jugnot, 2009), the TVE series 'Curro Jiménez ' (1976) or 'Holy Theresa of Jesus' (1984), and films 'The Things of Love ' (Jaime Miguvarri, 1989) or I cry for a bandit' (Carlos Saura, 1964) who shot part of his footage in parts of Caraway, The IruelaUbeda and Baeza.

"La Hija," a milestone in the film history of this province

The director Manuel Martín Cuenca released last year 'La hija', first large film production entirely in the province of Jaén. In this social drama starring Javier Gutiérrez, the landscapes of the Natural Park Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and the Villas play a key role in the personal and controversial journey undertaken by the protagonists. "I am a director who likes to connect and be in the territory where I roam, the directors are not hunters, we are farmers, we come, we engage with the territory, we hope, we harvest, we sow and, if we are lucky, we collect something good," the filmmaker points out on the shooting of this film.

In order to know the locations of this production, the Provincial Council of Jaén, which is also a sponsor of it, has designed three itineraries. The route of the Guadalentínwhich includes sections by car and on foot or by bicycle, and which are mainly in the municipal terms ofCarawayandWell Alcón. The route of transhumanism and villagesin the Sierra de Segura. And a getaway through the city, which includes much of the historical center of Jaénthe Cathedral, the Castle of Santa Catalina and the Arab Baths, among other enclaves. Meet them here.

Film cities: Andalusia Film Commission

Another important step in this commitment to turn Jaén into a 5-star film set was taken at the recent International Tourism Fair (FITUR). The Jiennese capital joined the network of cities of Andalusia Film Commission. The aim of being part of this network is to promote Jaén's urban and natural appeal as a claim for the capture of films.

The glove is cast, and the Jiennese region thus offers numerous natural and monumental attractions to become a film scene, and to attract small and large audiovisual productions.
