The Transhumance and Village Route. Deep in the Sierra de Segura.

This route perfectly represents the northern area of the natural park, in particular the most remote territory of the middle and high mountain, the unique landscapes of transhumanism, subsistence and deep rural life. Much of the municipality of Santiago- Pontones is located in a high mountain area, with very little human presence and public services, given the dispersion of the population centres that in most cases are small villages and many of them completely uninhabited. Despite this, it is an occupied territory, with a low population density, but which maintains much of its livestock, forestry and mountain farming.

Inside the natural park Serras de Cazorla, Segura and the Villas, the high Santiago Pontonesthe scattered network of villages and roads, the high mountain area of the Campos de Hernán Perea, have exceptional environmental and sociological conditions in the Andalusian and Spanish context. In this area there are the lowest temperatures of the Iberian Peninsula, reaching each winter temperatures close to -20 ° C. Its customs, its crops, its way of speaking, its annual cycles, the way of living, its traditional agricultural activities make this community and these landscapes an unparalleled attraction in the protected areas and rural areas of Spain.

One of its most interesting natural conditions is the extraordinary night skies. The village of Don Domingo, in this municipal term, is declared first Starlight site from Spain. In these locations are given the cleanest skies, without light pollution, of the Peninsula. In fact it is the destination of tourists who specialize in such observations.

Manuel Martín Cuenca, chooses these sites to place the forest paths and the mountain shelter, a house of fieldmen in the vernacular language (fire guards), which shows at the central moment of the film the isolation of this mountain area and thus allows the development of the argument.
