They say that already in Roman times the lands where today the municipal term of Torreperogil is settled already served for the cultivation of life. The Arabs enjoyed the broth that the vineyards in this area of the province of Jaén produced and the Constable Lucas de Iranzo already recorded in the 15th century that the region of La Loma and, in particular, Torreperogil, have great singularities in their lands that lead to wines of renowned at the time. Today, surrounded by olive seas, the vines of Torreperogil, which disappeared four centuries ago by the tithe of the philosopher and which were later replanted with the teson of its inhabitants, comes out a wine recognized and protected by Protected Geographical Indication.
The Cooperativa Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia was born in the middle of the last century with the clear vocation to bring together the winegrowers of the area to make a productive effort in terms of quantity and quality that would place the wines of Torreperogil in the place they are now in.
With a careful presentation, the broths of this municipality enjoy great preaching and have become unique representatives of a tradition of which all the good know-how remains and which has also been able to adapt to the new times. The facilities of "La Misericordia" have improved to the extreme to mimic their production processes and translate that to every bottle that is uncut anywhere in Spain.
