Description
Every year, Beas de Segura prepares to hold its traditional Fiestas de San Marcos, from 22 to 25 April, a celebration declared of great ethnographic interest and known throughout Spain for its roped-bull tradition, a practice documented for centuries.For four days, the town once again becomes a meeting point for thousands of visitors drawn by the uniqueness of a festival combining religious tradition, popular culture, and a strong sense of local identity.
The programme includes the release of dozens of fighting bulls that run through the streets guided by ropemen, keeping alive a tradition passed down from generation to generation. The roped-bull tradition, characteristic of Beas, has become one of the festival's most recognisable elements and one of the town's main tourist attractions.
Alongside the bullfighting events, the Brotherhood of San Marcos has organised religious ceremonies, street parades, children's activities and popular open-air dances. On 25 April, the main day, a procession is held in honour of the saint, accompanied by the “Santa Cecilia” music band and numerous residents dressed in the traditional "marcuera" scarves and ribbons.
The Fiestas de San Marcos once again place Beas de Segura at the centre of the province's festive calendar, reaffirming the cultural and social importance of a celebration that forms an essential part of the town's intangible heritage.
