Program

The Martos Olive Festival, organized by the town council, has been celebrated for more than 30 years. It is a popular type commemoration that aims to pay tribute to the olive groves of the municipality. It takes place - every year - on December 8, the official starting date of the olive harvest season.

Various cultural events are organized at the Olive Festival. Thus, on the 8th, after the official reception of authorities at the City Hall, a well-known public figure proclaims the Festival; Afterwards, a wreath is celebrated at the Monument to the Aceituneros, a sculptural group cast in bronze, made by Constantino Unghetti and inaugurated in 1982, composed of two figures of olive trees, male and female, together with an olive press and a roller.

This is followed by an olive hole (bread, oil, cod and olives), while the Martos oil mill masters extract the first oil of the year using a manual screw press at the city's fairgrounds. A trade fair dedicated to the olive grove is also organized where the latest innovations are present.

The days before and after the celebration other parallel activities are organized such as photographic exhibitions, concerts, photography contests, literary encounters, sports activities and even an olive flamenco evening at the Peña flamenca de Martos or a basket making workshop.
