Between Peaks and Stars: Activity Programme in Sierra Mágina (March-April-May)

This spring, Sierra Mágina once again becomes the great stage for outdoor sport. Across March, April and the first days of May, the natural park offers a full calendar of hiking routes, via ferratas and night treks, inviting visitors to discover its most authentic landscape: ravines, peaks, historic villages and viewpoints that seem to float above a sea of olive trees.The programme kicks off on Sunday 1 March with the circular Barranco Morelguillos – Refugio Mojón Blanco route, a 14.3 km trail starting from the Fuente de las Pilas (Mancha Real), ideal for those seeking direct contact with nature.
Saturday 7 March will be a double day. On one hand, the circular route from the Mata Bejid Visitor Centre will take in the Cueva de la Solana, the castle and the village of Mata Bejid, finishing at the Peña del Águila. That same day, the GR-7 will link Jódar and Bedmar along a 9.5 km linear stretch.
Activities continue on Saturday 14 March with the Ruta del Chantre y la Umbría, a 17.14 km route starting from Cabra del Santo Cristo, with free transport from several towns in the region. The following weekend, Sunday 15th, brings two options: the route to the source of the Gargantón River and the Cambil – Mata Bejid (K3) via ferrata, with morning and afternoon slots.
Adrenaline arrives on Saturday 21 March with the Al-Manzur via ferrata in Bedmar (K3/K4). On Sunday 22nd there will be two hiking routes: Cueva de la Graja – Cruz de la Atalaya, and a circular route to the Columpio Gigante de Torres, the latter with a free bus.
Night-time also takes centre stage: on Saturday 28 March with the Puerto de la Mata night trek, a challenge of almost 20 km under Mágina's starry sky.
April arrives in style. On Saturday 11th, mountain lovers can choose between climbing Pico Aznaitín or Miramundos, both highly challenging and with free transport from various towns. On Sunday 12th, the Piedra del Águila – Peralejo route offers a more accessible option, while the Cambil via ferrata opens up further slots.
Cycling takes over on Saturday 18 April with a 68 km circular route between Valdepeñas, Noalejo and Campillo de Arenas. On Sunday 19th, the Piedra del Palo route and a further round of the Cambil via ferrata complete the weekend. The month closes on Sunday 26th with the Río Cuadros – Las Viñas – Torreón route.
The final major event will be on Saturday 2 May, with the Valle del Almadén night trek, 19.7 km starting from Torres, with a free bus from Jaén, Mancha Real and Torres.
