Manzanillo de Jaén

Description

This is a minor Andalusian variety, grown mainly in the province of Jaén, although it can also be found in other areas of Andalusia. It is used both for oil production and, to a lesser extent, as a table olive. The tree has medium-to-high vigour and an open habit, enters production relatively early, and shows good and fairly consistent productivity, adapting well to rain-fed areas and Mediterranean conditions. The fruit is medium-sized and rounded in shape, resembling a small apple, hence its name. Its oils are very well balanced, with a harmonious and pleasant profile, characterised by a fresh green fruitiness in which notes of grass, olive leaf and green almond predominate. On the palate, it has a sweet entry, followed by moderate bitterness and a progressive pungency that adds complexity.
