Arbosana

Description

This is a Catalan variety, which most likely takes its name from the town of L'Arboç, in the province of Tarragona. It has reduced vigour, lower than Arbequina, high productivity, and enters production early, which makes it well suited to hedgerow (super-high-density) plantations. Its productivity is very similar to, or even higher than, that of Arbequina, and it is of interest for areas where cold is not a problem. It is resistant to peacock spot, but highly susceptible to olive knot, which poses a challenge for mechanical harvesting. Its ripening is also later, which can affect harvesting in colder areas. Its leaves are small, as is its fruit. Its oils show a green fruitiness of medium intensity, with notes of grass, green almond, tomato and fresh fruit. On the palate, they are more structured than those of Arbequina, with a greater presence of bitterness and pungency. Its stability is medium.
