Montizón is a municipality located to the north of the district of El Condado, on the provincial border with Ciudad Real, just on the north-east end of Sierra Morena.
It is one of the nuclei of the "New Populations of Sierra Morena," founded in the 18th century by Charles III, to repopulate this area within the Sierra Morena colonization plan.
Three population centres form the municipality: Aldeahermosa, Venta de los Santos and Montizón. Although the latter gives the municipality the name is the smallest of the three in number of inhabitants.
The economic activity of Montizón is based on agriculture, complementing its income, in addition to forest activity, major and minor hunting and some sheep cattle. The olive tree is the economic engine of the area, being the main source of wealth, income and job creation. In the municipality there are three almazaras.
The enclaves of environmental interest are numerous, with good examples of Mediterranean ecosystem being preserved. The environment of the "El Dañador" swamp is the area of most natural interest.
Hunting has always been an appeal to lovers of this activity. The municipal term has more than thirty hunting grounds.

Montizón is the first town in Jaén, from the natural passage between Andalusia and Castilla La Mancha that through Sierra Morena links with Villamanrique (Ciudad Real).
It is a particularly agricultural municipal term, where the agricultural and mountain lands are distributed, in the latter the land of forest use dominates.
The farmland is located south of the term and is distributed between cereals and olive trees. Given his strategic position as a place of passage between Levante and La Mancha with the Guadalquivir valley, Montizon has been a place transited from Prehistory.
From the antiquity of the first inhabitants bear witness to the found remains: arrows with a pedernal tip, axes and carved stones, collected in the place called Torre-Albert, and ceramic in Head Girl.
