Description

The House of the Towers or the Palace of the Dávalos is the current School of Art in Ubeda. National Historical Monument since 1921, was sent to build throughout the 16th century by Andrés Dávalos de la Cueva, a regator and manager of the city.

Its facade, in a silver style, will be able to remind you of the Casa de las Conchas de Salamanca, since like this one, it has a shell-like decoration, because its founder belonged to the order of Santiago. It is also worth highlighting the two large cubic towers of the extremes, hence their name.

On the cover you can differentiate three bodies, which are decorated with a symbolic ornament. In the first, a half-point arch with large dovelage opens the way to the main door and in the gouges there are two busts surrounded by a laurel crown, one male and another female, which are a Renaissance ornamental motif whose symbolic function was to remove evil beings or spirits, thus keeping the entrance to the house. On the sides, two anillated columns mark the cover.

In the second body, the attention is focused on a semicircular fronton that houses the shield of Dávalos and Orozco, held by two chained savages, which symbolize the connection of the family line with the first origins of man. On the sides we have two windows with abalaustrated columns. There are also reliefs of cornucopies or horn of abundance, symbol of fortune, and eagles faced, allegory of the immortality of the lineage.

The third body is made up of a large triangular front that welcomes the family's weapons. On both sides you can see two small semicircular fronts, inside which is the efigie of Santiago peregrino on the left and a female bust on the right. At the top, close the building a flying ledge.

Inside, its original courtyard is preserved. It is square floor, with double gallery of half-point arches that is held by marble Corinthian columns. On the first floor you can observe some of the nobility shields of the time.
