Los Bordos
Description
This is a curious carnival tradition in which young men use “Bordos”, the fruit of the bulrush plant, once woven to make chair seats, rubbing their long strands until they release a white, sticky fluff that sticks to the hair or clothing of the girl they wish to show their love for — a source of pride for the mothers of these young women, who saw their daughters return covered in many “bordos”, an unmistakable sign that she had many suitors.
