Machado arrives in Baeza to take up the French language chair at the then-called General and Technical Institute, now the “Santísima Trinidad” Institute.CXXVIII POEM OF A DAY. RURAL MEDITATIONS (…) He has always been loyal to you, oh Rector of Salamanca! this humble teacher from a rural institute. (…) The center is located in what was the Renaissance headquarters of the old University of Baeza, with buildings added over time. The poet occupied a classroom on the ground floor to teach French classes, which is still intact and can be visited as a classroom-museum. In the classroom-museum, furniture, belongings and documentation related to Machado's life as a teacher are displayed: antique desks, a teacher's chair with a brazier (the classroom, like the town, is also damp and cold), a wooden coat rack, an umbrella... Some of them also feature Leopoldo Urquía, director of the institute with his daughter Paquita, to whose sister Lorca dedicates Ciudad Perdida. Thus, the young Lorca visited the Institute on his study trips. The Institute, which currently belongs to the Network of Historical Educational Institutes of Andalusia, is located in what was the Renaissance headquarters of the old University of Baeza. The classroom where Machado taught his classes is still intact and where furniture, belongings and documentation relating to the life of the Sevillian poet as a teacher are displayed: antique desks, a teacher's chair with a brazier, a wooden coat rack, an umbrella...
