Fishing
The province of Jaén occupies the upper basin of the Guadalquivir river, where reservoirs and a dense river network are abundant, creating excellent fishing settings ideal for practising various techniques targeting species such as salmonids (brown trout and rainbow trout), cyprinids (carp, barbel and Iberian nase) and centrarchids (largemouth bass). Jaén is home to 40 federated fishing clubs, which organise numerous fishing competitions in various categories (spinning for salmonids, fly fishing for salmonids, freshwater fry, children's, youth, women's and men's categories, bass from the shore, bass from a boat, and carp fishing).
Fishing Species and Locations
Rainbow Trout
The rainbow trout is the most common fishing species in many rapids, small lakes and ponds used for rod fishing. This species does not reproduce naturally in Finnish waters. Rainbow trout are caught using colourful flies, small hard lures and spoons.
Brown Trout
Trout fishing in Andalusia can be an extremely rewarding experience, as our waters are home to a growing population of native brown trout, thanks to the conservation measures put in place across our region. The aim is to make fishing a sustainable activity, which is why catch-and-release fishing has been introduced throughout the region.
Largemouth Bass and Pike
Both from the shore and from a boat. In these reservoirs, pike is also fished, coexisting perfectly with largemouth bass.
Cyprinids
This small fish tends to move in shoals, often quite far from the shore, either at the surface or in mid-water. In reservoirs where carp live and feed on bleak, it can be fished at the surface, always by churning up plenty of water or casting wherever surface strikes or movement are spotted.
