Pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Cabeza

Over the course of a week, the city's streets fill with standards, decorated horses, and brotherhoods arriving from every corner of Spain to greet “La Morenita”, the small yet powerful Virgin so many regard as mother, refuge and guide.

The journey to the Sanctuary is one made on foot, but also with the soul. Pilgrims make their way through holm oaks and cistus scrub, accompanied by the beat of drums, the jingling of medals, and voices singing ancient prayers.

Sunday is her main day. The Pontifical Mass, the crowd gathering on the esplanade, the cheers rising like a collective clamour... and then, the procession, that moment when the Virgin emerges amid a cloud of flowers, tears and promises.
