Traditionally, the local economy has been based on olive growing, but in recent years the town has diversified into other irrigated crops owing to its location on the banks of the Guadalquivir river. Campillo del Río is the province’s largest producer of white asparagus, has had a solar power plant since 2007 and has recently revived the production of tomatoes for canning. This municipal area consists of fertile meadows irrigated by the rural colonisation plans carried out throughout the 20th century.

The township’s heritage includes stately townhouses, the Iglesia Parroquial de San José (Parochial Church of Saint Joseph) in Torreblascopedro and the Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora (Parochial Church of the Assumption of Our Lady) in Campillo del Río.
