The town of Castillo de Locubín is located in the district of Sierra Sur in the province of Jaén. Sitting at the gateway to the Subbaetic mountain range, its municipal area is populated with olive trees and cherry trees. On the edge of the sierra of Ahillos, in a valley on the banks of the San Juan river, alternate areas of sierra with valleys of lush orchards.

The township is made up of the villages of Ventas de Carrizal and Los Chopos.
The birth of the San Juan river is a beautiful location and is a popular recreation site with both locals and visitors.
The cherry tree is the township’s emblem, and there is a fair and festival revolving around the cherry harvest. The cherry blossom towards the end of March is truly a sight to behold.
The township’s artistic heritage includes the Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro Apóstol,(Parochial Church of Saint Peter the Apostle), built at the end of the 16th century. Its main doorway has been rendered in a classical style and the side door has a mannerist style.
Around the town centre remain watchtowers from the Muslim period, such as La Villeta,, which still features the lower section and part of the walls that surrounded it.
