Jaén Virgen y Extra

At the beginning of the 21st century, a silent revolution began in the province of Jaén. Land of olive groves since Roman antiquity, when it was the province that supplied the Empire, with the passage of time it became the largest producer of olive oil in the world.

But that massive production bet more on the quantity than on the quality of putting in value its extra virgin olive oil. It has been recently, in a few years, when a group of talented businessmen set out to show that the most emblematic of their olives, the picual, could give as good, or better, extra virgin olive oil than any other olive in the world. It was a matter of changing habits and convincing markets and consumers. This documentary takes us into the challenges posed by this change, the difficulties its protagonists encountered, and it does so through the eyes of the people of the olive grove of Jaén, of the chefs who have seen in this change a gastronomic revolution, of entrepreneurs, and consumers, allowing us to discover the richness that oil hides, a product that, without having the fame of wine, may well compete with it in tastings and discussions. And entering to discover the insides of such an important product, discover the hidden beauty of one of the most unknown provinces in Spain.

Under the direction of José López Linares, prestigious producer and director of documentary film, and with the impetus of the Provincial Council of Jaén and the collaboration of the Caja Rural de Jaén, the documentary takes us into the olive grove, its culture and its main current challenges .
