Most of the farming land is concentrated in the east of the municipal area, where just a few fields of fruit are dotted amongst the olive groves. The local economy is therefore mainly based on olives, with some fruit and sheep farming in the deforested lands of the sierra.

Highlights in Bélmez de la Moraleda include the medieval castle, which was declared a ‘Historic Monument’ in 1985, the Muslim towers of Lucero and Sol and the famous "Caras de Bélmez" (Bélmez Faces), a paranormal phenomenon that happened in 1971 in the kitchen of a house near the local church. Since then, it has become a popular tourist attraction and many experts in the paranormal have visited without being able to provide an explanation.
