Vilches

Vilches is a town in the north of Jaén, in the district of Condado, situated in the foothills of the Sierra Morena. The villages of Guadalén and Miralrío also form part of the township.

The Guadalén, Guarrizas and Guadalimar rivers cross the municipal area and flow into the reservoirs of Guadalén, La Fernandina and Giribaile, respectively.

The countryside is highly varied and has great potential for tourism, with many sites of environmental interest, reservoirs, oak forests, olive groves, farmland, hunting and fishing.

The town boasts a significant historical and artistic heritage. Highlights include the Iglesia de San Miguel (Church of Saint Michael), the chapel of the Virgen del Castillo (Virgin of the Castle), the remains of the castles of Vilches and Giribaile, which are part of the Route of Castles and Battles of Jaén, and archaeological sites such as the Iberian site of Giribaile.
