Bedmar y Garcíez

A township at the feet of the Sierra Mágina, with a rugged landscape dedicated to cereals and olives.

It forms part of the Sierra Mágina Natural Park and the Subbaetic mountains, boasting spectacular and beautiful landscapes, full of holm oaks, gall oaks, Aleppo pines and black pines, as well as rich and varied wildlife.

The township is composed of the towns of Bedmar and Garcíez, Bedmar being the most important. Bedmar is home to a magnificent church and Garcíez boasts an interesting palace, both of which are built in a renaissance style.

The municipal area stretches from the Guadalquivir river in the north towards the high peaks of Sierra Mágina in the south. The municipal area is, therefore, part of the Sierra Mágina Natural Park, with its rich and varied natural spaces and settlements. A particular highlight is the Adelfal de Cuadros, a riverbank forest over the Cuadros river, which is dominated by oleander.

<p>The architectural heritage of Bedmar and Garcíez includes the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Parochial Church of Our Lady of the Assumption), built between the 15th and 18th century, and the Castillo de Bedmar (Castle of Bedmar), officially declared a ‘Historic Monument’, or the Palacio de los Marqueses de Viana (Palace of the Marquis of Viana).
