Palacio Ducal Bailén

Monument

Calle Nuestro Padre Jesús, 2. 223710, Bailén How to get

It was built on the remains of the old Castle of Bailén, built by Abderramán I in the s. IX, on a Visigoth monastery. From 1349 it belonged to the Ponce de León family, the first Counts of Bailén, until it was acquired by the mining family of the Bonaplata, who in 1893 sold it to the City Council, which installed its premises until 1930.

Currently only its facade is preserved, highlighting its Renaissance style reflected by the two "tenants" that accompany the family coat of arms topped by a ducal crown (the Duchy of Arcos is added to the county of Bailén). In 1970 it was dismantled piece by piece and installed in its current location.
