Iglesia de Santiago el Mayor

Calle Audiencia, 1. 23530, Jimena How to get

Its name comes from the festival on the day that Fernando III won Jimena from the Arabs in 1234. It was built in the late 15th and early 16th centuries on top of the mosque from the Islamic period. The general distribution of the temple and the head of its three naves, in Gothic style, belong to the first period of construction, during the 15th century. The ribbed vault that covers the Main Chapel stands out from this period. The interior columns and the doorway of the Callejón de la Audiencia are from the 16th century in the Renaissance style. The interior, in the Gothic style, has three naves, the central one being wider and taller than the lateral ones. It underwent a major restoration in 1960.
