Of Muslim origin, after its Castilian conquest by the troops of Ferdinand III in 1229 it had great strategic importance as it was in the front line against the kingdom of Granada. This brought with it great modifications in its citadel, at the same time that two great homage towers were built (Old and New), used as the residence of the old lords. One of these towers houses the "Xodar" Interpretation Center on the history of the castle.
