ACCEDER

Pinar de Cánava Path

The uniqueness of this corner of Sierra Mágina is undeniable: a forest anchored in the past that for years has remained almost untouched. A climb up to a pine forest that has been preserved in a very close to natural state and that, therefore, keeps an unusual beauty intact.

This pine forest was declared Natural Monument Pinar de Cánavas by the Andalusian Government on November 23rd 2001. It belongs to the municipality of Jimena, and is one of the few century-old forests of Aleppo pines left in Andalusia, with specimens of up to 250 years old. It forms the border between the limestone mountain range and the olive groves of Jaen. On the way you will have access to unforgettable scenic views and will be able to observe a great variety of flora and fauna associated with the different areas you have to cross.

DESCRIPTION

We start our walk at the hermitage of the Virgin of Cánava, near a beautiful square with a magnificent fountain with several spouts, and with a thick grove of trees around it.

As a surprise and complement to this path, we can go a little over 100 metres and reach the Caracoles, an ancient and magical village of stonemasons who worked the stone of the rodezno mill, and where we will find some of their unique dry stone constructions.
