ACCEDER

Empedraillo Path

An ancient cobbled road, of supposed Roman origin, gives its name to this path that starts in Miranda del Rey, in the district of Santa Elena, and has as its attractions a great variety of vegetation - the so-called Mediterranean forest -, some waterfalls and the coolness of the Arroyo del Rey reservoir. The route ends up taking the old Camino Real, from which you can see a hill called Mesa del Rey.

All the milestones recall the importance of other dates that the place had. It was here that the armies that faced each other in the crucial battle of Navas de Tolosa in 1212 camped and fought.

Exit 257 of the A-4 as it passes through Despeñaperros, to connect with the JA-7102 road that links the centre of Santa Elena with the district of Miranda del Rey. Pass the village hamlet without leaving the road until you reach a crossroads 150 m away, where the path begins on the right. You can also get there on foot from the Llano de las Américas Visitors' Centre, using the Estrechos de Miranda path, on its upstream branch of the La Campana River.
