ACCEDER

Romería Patrona de Bailén

July 22

Program

In this Pilgrimage, the people of Bailén accompany Our Lady of Zocueca, “Patroness of Bailén” to the Rumblar Sanctuary. The particularity of this is that said Pilgrimage is celebrated outside the municipality of Bailén, so when arriving at the area known as "El Ventorrillo", the Mayor of Guarromán, the town to which this village belongs, hands over the baton of command that of Bailén as a sign of good brotherhood between the two peoples. During the time that the Pilgrimage lasts, the Mayor of Bailén is also the Mayor of Zocueca. The origin of the pilgrimage dates back to the end of the 11th century when the market gardeners of the orchards of San Vicente, in the Rumblar, celebrated a sung mass for many years to thank Our Lady of Zocueca for having saved them from a plague in 1851 lobster that ravaged neighboring fields. The same plague and identical protection motivated the market gardeners since 1922 to promise to celebrate and pay for a Pilgrimage in thanksgiving on the last Sunday of September each year.
