Marqueses de Camarasa de Torres Palace

, Torres

Towards the year 1565 the Casa Palacio de los Cobos was finished, also known as the Palace of the Marquis of Camarasa, as it appears inscribed on its façade, being at that time butler of the Bartolomé Ximénez family.

This house is the most outstanding civil building as architecture of the town and it must be judged, at the same time, as a sign of its power through that special ornamental treatment of the classical portal and the symmetrical composition of the facade that give it that palace seal as home, center of domain and administrative control of a territory.

On the other hand, a distribution of the interior space not strictly of rooms and housing but of a depository warehouse for goods in kind that, as income due to the lord, had to be collected there. This aspect prevails over housing in the general consideration of the property. This primacy of deposit is well justifiable by the assent of the Marquis, whose residence since the end of the 16th century was not even in the lands of Jaén, but in Valladolid. This primordial function is demonstrated by the two wide naves that run on the second floor along the entire body of the house and on whose access bench there is still an inscription alluding to the date of construction of the barn.
