ACCEDER

Puerto de La Hoya

The ascent to the port of La Hoya begins in the place known as Cold River, very close to the recreation area. The road arises from the same regional road between Los Villares and Valdepeñas de Jaén. The route connects with the Barranco de la Hoya-La Pandera route, proposed in the section of Trails in the surroundings of Jaén capital of this same website.

Program

Shortly after starting to climb, the lane of the Pancorbo Residence is left on the right. The height gained by means of a few steep slopes, allows you to already enjoy the panoramic views over all the Barranco del Río cold, sheltered by the Sierra de La Pandera. In autumn, when the colors turn tan, the place takes on some really spectacular hues.

Fifty minutes later, you reach a crossroads: you have to keep going up to the right. Further on you pass, also to the right, a side lane. Then the slope smooths out. After a farmhouse, the lane ends in a depression, after an hour and a half of walking. At this point it is necessary to turn left, onto a narrow signposted path that leads to Puerto de la Hoya in fifteen minutes.

On the other side, a lush pine forest covers the slopes. The path that encourages you to discover the forest, starts from the same hill and soon joins a forest track. Further on it comes out at a crossroads: to the left, and in ten minutes, you will reach the Hoya del Caño forest house.

At this point there is the alternative of going up to the Nava port and connecting with the route that descends to the Puerto de las Coberteras on the Valdepeñas de Jaén slope. In front of the ruins, a path continues that first goes down to a stream and crosses it. It immediately transforms into a path that zigzags towards the port.
