It was declared a National Monument by Decree 3,764 of December 23, 1972. The church of San Pedro was built on another temple of small dimensions, possibly Gothic, which was demolished. The parish church was started around 1500. The north façade has flamboyant Gothic tints. In the upper part there are the coats of arms that belong to the then bishop of Jaén, Don Alonso Suárez de la Fuente del Sauce (1500-1520). The southern façade called the Midday Sun, is in the Plateresque style and is attributed to Diego de Alcaraz. The interior is sober, of harmonious proportions, it has three naves and a coffered vault over the presbytery. In the year 1577 Alonso Barba takes over the works already started. The construction lasted long years, as it was an ambitious project for a town of two thousand people. Later, in the year 1584, Alonso de Vandelvira took over the work as "Senior Architect" of this Villa. The tower is one of the most beautiful and slender in Spain. Its construction begins around 1619, that is, it dates from the 17th century, and is the work of Aranda and Salazar.
